The Jacksonville Jaguars traded backup quarterback Gardner Minshew II to the Philadelphia Eagles on Saturday for a conditional sixth-round draft pick in 2022.
ESPN reported the pick will become a fifth-rounder should Minshew take 50 percent of the snaps in at least three games for Philadelphia. The move comes just days after 2021 No. 1 overall pick Trevor Lawrence was named the Jaguars’ starting quarterback for the season opener.

The Eagles released quarterback 26-year-old Nick Mullens, who was 5-11 as a starter for the San Francisco 49ers over the past three seasons.
Minshew, 25, was 7-13 as the Jaguars’ starter over the past two seasons, completing 62.9 percent of his throws for 5,530 yards with 37 touchdowns and 11 interceptions during that span.
Lawrence, 21, was the top selection in the 2021 NFL Draft after completing 66.6 percent of his passes for 10,098 yards, 90 touchdowns and 17 interceptions in three seasons at Clemson. The 6-foot-6 quarterback also ran for 943 yards and 18 TDs.
C.J. Beathard, 27, likely will start the season as Lawrence’s backup. Beathard, who was a teammate of Mullens in San Francisco, has thrown for 3,469 yards with 18 touchdowns and 13 interceptions in 19 career games. He is 2-10 in 12 starts.
The Jaguars open their season at the Houston Texans on Sept. 12. The Eagles, behind presumed starter Jalen Hurts, will play the Falcons in Atlanta in Week 1.
