Seattle Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson has received medical clearance to play Sunday against the Green Bay Packers.
Dr. Steve Shin, who performed the surgery on Wilson’s throwing hand on Oct. 8, gave the OK for his return. “Although this was uncharted territory (I have never in my career seen such a severe injury to the hand of an NFL quarterback), I have also never encountered a player so committed to his postoperative therapy,” Shin said via statement released by the team. “I am absolutely amazed at his progress, so much so that I can now confidently clear him for full return to play without reservation.”
Wilson, 32, ruptured a tendon in the middle finger of his right hand when he slammed it against Los Angeles Rams defensive tackle Aaron Donald‘s helmet on Oct. 7. He had a pin removed from the finger last Monday.
The Seahawks (3-5) are coming off a bye week. Seattle has gone 1-2 with backup Geno Smith under center, including a 31-7 victory over the Jacksonville Jaguars in Week 8.
Wilson had started 149 consecutive games before the injury. The seven-time Pro Bowl selection has completed 72.0 percent of his passes this year for 1,196 yards with 10 touchdowns and one interception in five games.
