Tua Tagovailoa hasn’t taken a snap in his second full season as the Alabama Crimson Tide’s starting quarterback, but the dynamic left-hander is already a heavy favorite to go No. 1 in the 2020 NFL Draft.
DraftKings and PointsBets are offering Tagovailoa at -200 to be the first player selected in eight months, with Oregon Ducks quarterback Justin Herbert (+400) having the next lowest odds by both sportsbooks. The competition to go No. 1 is currently considered to be a small pool with Ohio State defensive end Chase Young (+500 DraftKings, +1000 PointsBet) and Georgia Bulldogs quarterback Jake Fromm (+650 DK, +700 PB) the only other players holding odds lower than +2000 by either book.
Tagovailoa threw for 3,966 yards with 43 touchdowns against only six interceptions in starting 16 games as a true sophomore in 2018. Herbert surprised many by returning for his senior season after a breakout 2018 campaign in which he threw for 3,151 yards, 29 touchdowns and eight interceptions.
Clemson Tigers quarterback Trevor Lawrence, the current favorite by most books to win the 2019 Heisman Trophy, is not eligible for the 2020 NFL Draft as he enters his true sophomore season.
