The Chicago Bulls have given head coach Jim Boylen a new deal that increases his pay and keeps him under contract through the 2019-20 season, according to multiple reports Saturday. According to the Chicago Sun-Times, Boylen was previously set to make just over $800,000 this season and next on his associate head coach salary. He now could remain the team’s head coach through at least next season. Per ESPN, Boylen’s new salary for 2019 is $1.6 million, with $1 million guaranteed, which doesn’t rule out searching for a new coach after this year. Boylen, 53, took over for fired coach Fred Hoiberg on Dec. 3. The team owes Hoiberg the rest of his $5 million salary for this season and $5 million next year. The Bulls have gone 5-18 under Boylen, bringing their season record to 10-32. Reports swirled just a week into his tenure that the players were on the verge of a revolt, but a meeting with Boylen appeared to soothe things. Boylen spent four years as an associate head coach in Chicago before taking over for Hoiberg. –Field Level Media
