Houston Dynamo FC part with coach Tab Ramos

Houston Dynamo FC parted ways with head coach Tab Ramos.

The Dynamo announced the move on Thursday, one day after the team’s season concluded with a 2-0 setback at CF Montreal. Houston finished with a 6-16-12 record (30 points) to reside in the cellar of the Western Conference.

The Dynamo also announced they will not extend the contracts of assistant coaches Omid Namazi and Martin Vazquez.

“I want to thank Tab for everything he has done for this club over the last two years, on and off the pitch,” new general manager Pat Onstad said in a team release. “In the short time that I have been here, it was apparent that he has made a tremendous positive impact on the culture of our team and has helped make Houston a more appealing destination for players within MLS and abroad. There is a strong foundation here and we are grateful to Tab for that.”

The Dynamo are expected to begin their search for a new head coach immediately.

“Big THANK YOU to everyone at @HoustonDynamo, all players, full staff & more importantly to all FANS in this amazing city … always made me feel at home…,” Ramos wrote on Twitter. “The staff & I gave it all we had & always represented you with pride…. Wishing you all the best!”

Ramos, 55, was hired prior to the 2020 campaign by the Dynamo.

He played in three World Cups (1990, 1994, 1998) and was named U.S. Soccer Athlete of the Year in 1990. The playmaking midfielder scored eight goals in 81 national appearances.

Ramos was inducted into the National Soccer Hall of Fame in 2005.

Ramos also played seven seasons (1996-2002) for the MLS’ New York/New Jersey MetroStars. He was a three-time All-Star.
