Tennessee remains No. 1 as Duke closes

Tennessee lost several first-place votes but maintained the top spot ahead of Duke in the Associated Press Top 25 poll released Monday.
The Volunteers received 40 of 64 first-place votes, eight fewer than last week. Duke jumped from 12 first-place votes to 24, picking up the eight that had gone to Tennessee and four that had been cast for Virginia last week.
The Blue Devils defeated the Cavaliers 81-71 on Saturday to sweep the regular-season series.
Tennessee posted home victories over Missouri and Florida last week to increase its winning streak to a school-record 18 games.

Gonzaga leapfrogs UVa

Gonzaga moved up one spot to third, while Virginia dropped a slot to No. 4. Kentucky, which is on a 10-game winning streak, held at No. 5.
Michigan, Nevada, North Carolina, Houston and Marquette rounded out the top 10.
Houston moved up three spots and is in the top 10 for the first time since the end of the 1984 season, when its Phi Slama Jama team, led by Akeem Olajuwon, lost in the national title game to Georgetown.
Kansas State re-entered the poll this week, landing at No. 18 after defeating Kansas and Baylor last week to take a 1 1/2-game lead in the Big 12 entering the week. The Jayhawks fell one spot to No. 14.
Florida State made the biggest jump within the poll, increasing five spots to No. 17. The Seminoles posted a pair of victories last week — at Syracuse and home against Louisville — for a five-game winning streak. Louisville, despite the loss, stayed at No. 16.
No. 25 Cincinnati dropped out a week after entering the rankings. The Bearcats beat Memphis but lost to Houston last week.
Virginia Tech slid 11 spots to No. 22 after losses to Louisville and Clemson.
