Jordan Eberle had a goal and an assist, including the winner at 2:23 of overtime, as the Seattle Kraken defeated the visiting Los Angeles Kings 3-2 Saturday night.
Jared McCann and Daniel Sprong also scored, and Justin Schultz and Matty Beniers each had two assists for Seattle, which improved to 3-1-1 on its six-game homestand. Goaltender Martin Jones, starting for the 11th time in the past 12 games, made 27 saves.
Phillip Danault had a goal and an assist for the Kings, who went 1-2-1 on their four-game trip. Trevor Moore also tallied, and Cal Petersen stopped 26 of 29 shots.
The Kraken, playing their third consecutive overtime game, got the winner after Schultz won the puck along the boards in the defensive end, starting a two-on-one breakaway with Eberle and Brandon Tanev. Eberle drove down the left wing before putting a wrist shot over Petersen’s catching glove and into the roof of the net.
With the game tied 1-1 entering the third, both teams scored in the opening minute of the period.
Moore tallied on a short-handed breakaway just 35 seconds into the third to give the Kings the lead. Just 18 seconds later, Sprong took a cross-ice pass from Oliver Bjorkstrand on the power play and snuck a wrist shot between Petersen’s pads from the left faceoff circle to make it 2-2.
The Kraken took an early lead on McCann’s goal on a three-on-two rush at 4:42 of the first.
Eberle carried the puck down the left wing and fed Beniers at the top of the crease, but Petersen was able to kick Beniers’ shot wide. The rebound went straight to McCann on the right wing, and he was able to squeeze a one-timer just inside the near post.
The score remained 1-0 until Danault tied it at 18:52 of the second thanks to some gritty work deep in the Seattle zone.
Danault had a wraparound attempt stopped by Jones, but the Kraken were unable to clear the puck. Viktor Arvidsson drove down the right wing before sending a behind-the-back pass to Danault in the low slot. Danault’s shot was stopped by Jones, but the rebound popped over the goalie’s shoulder and Danault batted it out of midair and into the net.
