Austin FC sign free agent GK Matt Bersano

Austin FC reached an agreement with free agent goalkeeper Matt Bersano on a two-year contract.

The deal announced Tuesday includes a club option for the 2025 season.

Bersano, 30, appeared in two matches (one start) and recorded six saves with the San Jose Earthquakes in 2022.

“Having played at Q2 Stadium as a visitor, I have seen first-hand how incredible the energy and atmosphere are on match days and can’t wait to be a part of it,” Bersano said in a news release. “Austin FC is an ambitious club with a bright future, and I’ll do everything in my power both on and off the field to help the Club continue to grow in its third year.”

Bersano had been with San Jose since 2017. He spent three seasons on loan at USL championship side Reno 1868 FC, posting 20 shutouts in 57 appearances from 2017-19.

“Matt adds depth and experience to our goalkeeping corps,” said Austin FC sporting director Claudio Reyna. “We’re excited to have him in Austin and wish him a warm welcome to our Club and our community.”
