Bruins acquire Tyler Bertuzzi from Red Wings for picks

The Boston Bruins acquired forward Tyler Bertuzzi from Detroit on Thursday for two draft picks, including a 2024 top-10 protected first-rounder.

The Red Wings also received a fourth-round pick in 2025, per the announcement. Detroit retains 50 percent of Bertuzzi’s $4.75 million cap hit.

Bertuzzi, 28, has 14 points (four goals, 10 assists) in 29 games this season. He missed roughly six weeks – including the whole month of December – with a hand injury that required surgery.

Bertuzzi helps the Bruins contend with the injury to Taylor Hall, who was placed on long-term injured reserve on Thursday. Hall, 31, has tallied 36 points (16 goals, 20 assists) in 58 games this season.

Also Thursday, the Bruins placed forward Nick Foligno on injured reserve and recalled forward Jakub Lauko from Providence, the club’s AHL affiliate.

Foligno, 35, has appeared in 60 games with Boston this season, posting 26 points (10 goals, 16 assists).

Lauko, 22, has played in 11 games with the Bruins this season, recording three points (one goal, two assists).

Bertuzzi has 202 career points (88 goals, 114 assists) in six-plus seasons, all with the Red Wings, who selected him in the second round of the 2013 draft.

Bertuzzi is scheduled to be an unrestricted free agent this offseason.

The trade comes the same day the Bruins signed forward David Pastrnak to an eight-year, $90 million extension.
