Rapids fire coach Robin Fraser after 4 years

The Colorado Rapids dismissed head coach Robin Fraser on Tuesday, ending his tenure with the team that has the worst record in Major League Soccer.

Assistant coach Chris Little will serve as interim head coach.

“We’re incredibly grateful to Robin for his commitment to the club and for what he achieved during his time here as head coach,” Padraig Smith, team president, said in a news release. “This was a difficult decision but one we felt was necessary to best position the club to return to the playoffs and ultimately compete for trophies. We thank Robin for his four years of dedicated work and we wish him nothing but the best in the future.”

The Rapids hired Fraser on Aug. 25, 2019, and the team posted a 47-48-34 record in all competitions during his tenure. The Rapids currently are 3-13-10 (19 points), have scored just 16 goals and have a minus-23 goal differential.

In his first two full seasons, the Rapids made the postseason and in 2021, they won the Western Conference for the first time with their best regular-season points total ever (17-7-10, 61 points). Colorado lost 1-0 to the Portland Timbers in the Western Conference semifinal.

Little became a Rapids assistant coach before the 2021 MLS season. He previously was head coach of the Tacoma Defiance when they were part of the USL Championship.

The departure of Fraser, 55, represents the sixth coaching change in the MLS this season. Other teams to part ways with their head coaches are: New York Red Bulls (Gerhard Struber), Chicago Fire (Ezra Hendrickson), Inter Miami (Phil Neville), Toronto FC (Bob Bradley) and the Timbers (Gio Savarese).
