Orlando City SC acquired defender David Brekalo from Viking FK of the Norwegian Eliteserien on Thursday.
Brekalo will join Orlando on a guaranteed contract that runs through 2027, with a club option in 2028.
“We’re very excited to be able to bring David to Orlando and to have him join us this year,” Orlando City general manager Luiz Muzzi said. “His defensive intelligence and technical abilities are both something that we feel will bolster our back line and set us up for further success this season.”
Brekalo, 25, turned pro in 2017 and has made 185 appearances across all competitions since then. He has recorded 19 goals and two assists.
Playing for the Slovenian national team, Brekalo has also appeared in 11 international matches.
Orlando City went 18-7-9 last season, finishing second in the Eastern Conference. They were eliminated in the semifinals of the MLS Cup Playoffs.
