Report: Golden Knights acquire Tomas Hertl from Sharks

Tomas Hertl

The Vegas Golden Knights acquired injured forward Tomas Hertl from the San Jose Sharks, TSN reported on Friday.

Per TSN, the Sharks will receive a first-round pick in the 2025 NHL Draft and forward David Edstrom while the Golden Knights will also receive third-round selections in 2025 and 2027. San Jose will retain 17 percent of Hertl’s cap hit, per TSN.

The addition of Hertl is the latest big move by the Golden Knights, who added defenseman Noah Hanifin from the Calgary Flames and forward Anthony Mantha from the Washington Capitals.

Hertl has been on injured reserve since early February after undergoing surgery to clean out loose cartilage in his left knee. The Sharks said at the time that he’d be out several weeks.

Hertl, 30, is playing in the second season of an eight-year, $65.1 million contract.

Hertl has recorded 34 points (15 goals, 19 assists) in 48 games this season, his 11th with San Jose since being selected with the 17th overall pick of the 2012 NHL Draft. He has 484 points (218 goals, 266 assists) in 712 career games.

Edstrom, 19, was selected by the Golden Knights with the 32nd overall pick of the 2023 NHL Draft. He has 17 points (six goals, 11 assists) in 42 games this season with Frolunda HC in the Swedish league.
