The New York Red Bulls signed All-Star defender John Tolkin to a new four-year contract through 2027.
The deal announced Thursday includes an option for 2028 for the 21-year-old homegrown player.
Tolkin has started 11 of his 12 MLS matches this season. He has five goals and 11 assists in 98 matches (91 starts) since making his MLS debut in 2021.
“We are thrilled to sign John to a new contract,” said Jochen Schneider, the club’s head of sport. “… He has proven to be one of the top young players at his position globally and despite missing preseason, he has been fighting back and still has a lot of potential to grow with us. We are very proud to have John with us.”
Tolkin made the MLS All-Star team last season and was ranked No. 6 in the 2023 MLS 22 Under 22 list.
“John has been a great person to get to know over the last couple months and I’m really happy to keep him with the club,” said Red Bulls coach Sandro Schwarz. “He has been a big member of this club for the last few years and has been very important for the club on the field and off.”
