The Cleveland Guardians placed reliever Nick Sandlin on the 15-day injured list Wednesday due to inflammation in his lower back. It was retroactive to Monday.
The 27-year-old right-hander is 5-0 with one save and a 3.49 ERA in 33 appearances out of the bullpen this season.
In his most recent outing Sunday at Toronto, Sandlin failed to retire a batter and gave up three runs on three hits and two walks in a 7-6 loss to the Blue Jays.
The Guardians recalled right-hander Darren McCaughan from Triple-A Columbus in a corresponding transaction.
McCaughan, 28, was acquired from the Miami Marlins for cash on May 9. He made one appearance this season for Miami, allowing eight runs on nine hits — including three homers — in 4 2/3 innings at Oakland on May 4.
