The New York Red Bulls transferred midfielder Frankie Amaya to Liga MX side Toluca FC, the MLS club announced Thursday.
The Athletic previously reported that Toluca FC are paying the Red Bulls a transfer fee of around $3.5 million.
Amaya, 23, has spent the last four seasons with the Red Bulls, tallying eight goals and 14 assists across 91 appearances for the club. He had one goal and three assists in 20 appearances this season.
“We want to thank Frankie for his commitment to the club since he arrived in 2021,” Red Bulls head of sport Jochen Schneider said in a press release. “Frankie has been an important member of our team over the last four seasons, and we wish him and his family the best in the next step of his career.”
Amaya joined the Red Bulls after two seasons with FC Cincinnati, who drafted the former UCLA standout first overall in the 2019 MLS SuperDraft.
Amaya made 11 career appearances for the United States U-20 men’s national team.
