Si Woo Kim records longest hole-in-one in Open history

South Korea’s Si Woo Kim made history with the longest hole-in-one in the history of The Open Championship on Saturday.

Kim holed his tee shot from 238 yards on the par-3 17th hole in his third round at Royal Troon in Scotland. It was the first ace at the 152nd Open Championship.

“It was amazing,” said Kim, 29. “I had plenty of holes-in-one in my life. Maybe over 10 times, at tournaments like six to eight times, but I think this is the most memorable hole-in-one.”

The PGA Tour reported it was his fifth ace in tour play.

In addition to the record length, it was the first time a hole-in-one has been completed at the 17th hole at an Open at Royal Troon.

Prior to Kim’s shot, the longest hole-in-one at the Open was by Frank Lickliter II, who aced the 212-yard fifth hole at Royal Lytham & St Annes in 2001.

Kim shot an even-par 71 on Saturday and is 5-over par entering the final round.
