The Dallas Cowboys placed defensive tackle Jordan Phillips on injured reserve on Wednesday because of a right wrist injury and he will miss at least four games.
In a corresponding move, the Cowboys signed veteran defensive lineman Carlos Watkins off the Washington Commanders’ practice squad.
Phillips, who turns 32 on Saturday, played in two games for Dallas this season and made one tackle.
The Cowboys traded a sixth-round pick in the 2026 NFL Draft on Aug. 15 to the New York Giants for Phillips and a seventh-round selection.
Phillips, 31, had 15 tackles and 2.5 sacks in 14 games (nine starts) last season with the Buffalo Bills. He has 182 tackles and 24 sacks in 122 career games (62 starts) with the Miami Dolphins (2015-18), Bills (2018-19, 2022-23) Arizona Cardinals (2020-21) and Cowboys.
Watkins, 30, played in one game this season for Washington. He has 139 career tackles including 17 tackles for loss, six sacks and one interception which he returned for a touchdown in parts of eight seasons playing for the Houston Texans (2017-20), Cowboys (2021-22), Cardinals (2023) and Washington (2024).
His best season was in 2021 with Dallas, when he played in 15 games (14 starts) and set career highs with 32 tackles, five tackles for loss and one interception along with one sack.
