Minnesota United signed defender Michael Boxall to a contract extension through 2025 on Tuesday.
The deal includes an option for 2026 for the 36-year-old captain and New Zealand international.
Boxall has one goal and one assist in 29 MLS matches (all starts) in 2024, his eighth season with the Loons.
“Michael has been a pillar on our team’s roster, and a strong part within the Twin Cities community since he joined the club in 2017,” sporting director Khaled El-Ahmad said in a news release. “We look forward to seeing his leadership and experience continue to shape the future success of our team, both on and off the field.”
Boxall has seven goals and two assists in 228 MLS matches (227 starts) with the Vancouver Whitecaps (2011) and Minnesota United (2017-24).
“I’ve had an incredible time in Minnesota and I’m excited to extend my stay and continue to call Allianz Field my home,” Boxall said. “There isn’t a better group of supporters to play for. My family love it here, and I look forward to continue working with (head coach) Eric Ramsay and his staff to push for success with the club.”
Minnesota (12-12-6, 42 points) currently holds the Western Conference’s ninth and final playoff spot with four matches left in the regular season.
