New York Giants wide receiver Malik Nabers is making progress in concussion protocol but will miss his second consecutive game on Sunday, coach Brian Daboll said Friday.
Nabers, 21, worked outside with trainers for the first time on Wednesday since sustaining the concussion against the Dallas Cowboys on Sept. 26. The rookie did not practice with the team on Wednesday or Thursday.
“He’ll be doing stuff out on the field, more like he was doing the last two days,” Daboll said before Friday’s practice. “He won’t make it (on Sunday).”
The Giants (2-3) play host to the Cincinnati Bengals (1-4) on Sunday night.
Daboll said Nabers and the training staff communicate before and after his activities.
“We’re making progress but again, that’s never anything you want to rush,” Daboll said. “But making progress, he’ll do some more than he did yesterday, similar to probably the day before. Take it day by day.”
Nabers was injured while attempting to hold onto the ball along the sideline during a fourth-and-6 play with 3 1/2 minutes remaining in a 20-15 loss to the visiting Cowboys.
“Yeah, it was a pretty big hit,” Daboll said when asked if Nabers was knocked unconscious. “I’m not going to get into what it was, but it was certainly a big hit.”
Nabers has a league-high 35 catches for 386 yards and three touchdowns in four games since being selected by New York with the sixth overall pick of the 2024 NFL Draft out of LSU.
