New Chicago White Sox manager Will Venable is retaining Grady Sizemore, who concluded the 2024 season as interim manager, on his coaching staff.
Sizemore will serve as the offensive coordinator under Venable, who announced the full coaching staff for the upcoming season on Monday.
The rest of the staff is made up of bench coach Walker McKinven, pitching coach Ethan Katz, hitting coach Marcus Thames, first base/outfield coach Jason Bourgeois and third base/infield coach Justin Jirschele. Also on staff are assistant pitching coach Matt Wise, assistant hitting coach Joel McKeithan and catching coach Drew Butera.
McKinven and McKeithan are new to the White Sox, while Katz (fifth season), Wise (second season), Thames (second season), Bourgeois (second season), Jirschele (second season), Butera (second season) and Sizemore (second season) are returnees.
Sizemore replaced the fired Pedro Grifol as manager on Aug. 8. The White Sox were 28-89 (.239) when Grifol was fired. Sizemore led the White Sox to a 13-32 (.289) mark over the final 45 games.
The White Sox have tasked Venable, a first-year manager, with beginning the team’s turnaround. Chicago’s 41-121 finish set the record for the most losses in modern baseball history.
