red wings

Alex DeBrincat, Lucas Raymond and Marco Kasper had a goal and an assist apiece as the host Detroit Red Wings extended their winning streak to six games by topping the Chicago Blackhawks 5-3 on Friday.

Detroit’s Patrick Kane registered three assists and Albert Johansson netted his first career goal. Andrew Copp also scored for the Red Wings, and Cam Talbot made 12 saves.

Teuvo Teravainen scored two third-period goals and Ryan Donato added the other tally for the Blackhawks. Connor Bedard extended his point streak to nine games with a first-period assist and Petr Mrazek made 23 saves as Chicago fell for the seventh time in nine games.

DeBrincat opened the scoring 4:26 into the game. Kane brought the puck into the Blackhawks’ zone and passed it to DeBrincat, who lifted the puck from the edge of the right circle over Mrazek’s left shoulder.

Just after the Blackhawks killed off a penalty, they tied the contest at 10:56 of the first period. Bedard set up Donato, who ripped a shot from the right circle that beat Talbot on the short side. Ilya Mikheyev had the second assist.

Bedard committed a hooking penalty late in the first period that carried over into the second. The Red Wings capitalized when Raymond converted from the left side off a DeBrincat feed. Kane had the secondary assist.

Dylan Larkin nearly gave the Red Wings a two-goal advantage with eight minutes left in the middle period with a shot that hit the crossbar. Chicago was fortunate to be down just one goal, as Detroit had an 18-2 advantage in shots on goal in the period.

Copp scored five minutes into the third period to give the Red Wings some breathing room. Erik Gustafsson carried the puck behind the Chicago net and passed it to Copp, who squeezed the puck through a tight spot.

Johansson scored his breakthrough goal at 7:07 of the final period off a backhanded pass from Lucas Raymond. Kasper had the secondary assist.

Teravainen scored midway through the period, then scored again with 2:54 remaining after Chicago pulled Mrazek for another skater. Kasper found the empty net with 1:39 to clinch Detroit’s win.
