Tundra Esports and Gaimin Gladiators won their groups and earned all-important byes into the playoff semifinals at the BLAST Slam II on Tuesday in Copenhagen.
The $1 million event began Tuesday with two groups of five teams. They played a round robin of best-of-one matches in their group to determine seeding for the playoff stage.
Tundra went 3-1 in Group A by beating Talon Esports, BetBoom Team and Yakult Brothers while suffering a loss to Team Liquid. Yakult Brothers tied with Tundra at 3-1, but Tundra won the tiebreaker for first.
Liquid (2-2) placed third, BetBoom (1-3) finished fourth and Talon (1-3) was fifth.
It was a similar story in Group B, where Gaimin Gladiators went 3-1 with victories over Nigma Galaxy, PARIVISION and Xtreme Gaming and a loss to Team Falcons. They won the tiebreaker over Nigma Galaxy (3-1), while Falcons (2-2) earned a third-place finish, PARIVISION (2-2) was fourth and Xtreme Gaming (0-4) brought up the rear.
As second seeds, Nigma Galaxy and Yakult Brothers received byes into the quarterfinals, and Team Liquid and Team Falcons get to skip into the second round as third seeds. The fourth and fifth seeds will begin the single-elimination playoff bracket in Round 1.
The playoff matches will be best-of-three until Sunday’s grand final, which is best-of-five.
