No. 3 Duke continues roll, crushing Stanford

Cooper Flagg

Tyrese Proctor scored 23 points and No. 3 Duke ran away from visiting Stanford for a 106-70 romp on Saturday in Durham, N.C.

Cooper Flagg chipped in with 19 points and six assists and Khaman Maluach racked up 17 points on 8-for-9 shooting for Duke (22-3, 14-1 Atlantic Coast Conference), which shot 62.5 percent from the field and made 14 of 29 shots from 3-point range.

The Blue Devils have rolled to victories twice since their 16-game winning streak ended on Feb. 8 at Clemson. Sion James added 14 points and six assists and Caleb Foster had 10 points off the bench.

The team’s point total matched the most under third-year coach Jon Scheyer. The margin of victory was the largest for Duke in an ACC game this season.

Maxime Raynaud poured in 18 of his 19 points in the first half for Stanford (16-10, 8-7). Oziyah Sellers had 11 points and Donavin Young notched 10.

The Cardinal have lost four of their last five games, going on 0-2 on this trip after a loss at Georgia Tech on Wednesday. This was Stanford’s first visit to Duke, and the Cardinals got a heavy dose of Cameron Indoor Stadium noise.

Stanford guard Jaylen Blakes, who played the past three seasons for Duke, had two points on 1-for-10 shooting in his return to campus.

Proctor posted 17 points in the first half as Duke led 49-34 at the break. The Blue Devils shot 58.1 percent from the field (18 of 31) in the half.

Proctor made five 3-pointers for the game and Flagg, who was 7-for-13 from the floor, made three shots from beyond the arc.

Sellers had an early spark for Stanford with seven of the team’s first 13 points.

Both teams had three 3-pointers slightly more than six minutes into the game, but Duke held a 21-13 lead at that point by scoring on five consecutive possessions that resulted in a Stanford timeout.

The Blue Devils made 13 of their first 19 shots and led by 17 points, 37-20.
