The Toronto Blue Jays on Saturday designated right-hander Jose Urena for assignment.
The 33-year-old has appeared in 239 MLB games in his career. In 2024, he went 5-8 with a 3.80 ERA in 33 outings for the Texas Rangers.
Urena signed a minor league deal with the New York Mets during the offseason. On April 28, he made his season debut, allowing five earned runs in three innings of relief against the Washington Nationals.
After only one game, the Mets designated him for assignment, and he elected free agency, signing with the Blue Jays.
In Toronto, Urena posted a 3.65 ERA across 12 1/3 innings.
In a corresponding move Saturday, the Blue Jays recalled left-hander Easton Lucas from Triple-A Buffalo. The 28-year-old already has thrown 21 2/3 innings for Toronto this season, producing a 2-2 record and a 5.82 ERA.
