The Athletics acquired catcher Austin Wynns from the Cincinnati Reds on Sunday for cash considerations.
The club also designated right-hander Carlos Duran for assignment to clear a spot on the 40-man roster.
Wynns, 34, was designated for assignment by Cincinnati on Friday. He batted .400 (16-for-40) with three homers and 11 RBIs in 18 games this season.
Wynns is a career .241 hitter with 16 home runs and 74 RBIs in 256 games with the Baltimore Orioles (2018-19, 2021), San Francisco Giants (2022-23), Los Angeles Dodgers (2023), Colorado Rockies (2023) and Reds.
Duran’s lone major league appearance came May 22 when he gave up three runs in a third of an inning against the Los Angeles Angels.
