Aubrey Kingsbury made six saves, including two clutch stops in the final 10-plus minutes, helping the visiting Washington Spirit earn a 0-0 draw with the San Diego Wave on Sunday night.

Washington (7-4-2, 23 points) headed into the international break with another road point as Kingsbury’s effort helped them improve to 5-1-1 on the road.

San Diego (7-3-3, 24 points) fell to 6-1-2 in its past nine matches and goalie Kailen Sheridan finished with three saves.

Kingsbury posted her fourth shutout of the season on a night when San Diego controlled possession for 65 percent of the contest and attempted 16 shots. She highlighted the shutout with big stops on Savannah McCaskill in the 77th minute and Kenza Dali two minutes later.

Kingsbury made a diving stop near the bottom right corner on McCaskill’s attempt from well outside the box. Following a free kick, Kingsbury dove to her right near the post to stop Dali.

Those saves occurred after Kingbury made a leaping stop to deny Kimmi Ascanio in the 62nd.

Kingsbury earned a shutout against her 14th different team and ended it by denying Ascanio’s header off a corner kick late stoppage time. It was the 41st shutout in her NSWL career for Kingsbury.

Washington missed two chances to score late in the first half when Sheridan denied Gift Monday. Washington nearly scored in the 69th, but Sheridan stopped Croix Bethune’s attempt from outside the box.
