WBA lightweight champion Gervonta “Tank” Davis was arrested in Miami Beach on Friday morning on misdemeanor domestic violence charges.
The arrest stems from a dispute about a month ago, when Davis, 30, allegedly assaulted his ex-girlfriend, the mother of two of his children, outside of her home in Doral, Fla.
In an incident report from the Doral Police Department, Davis’ ex-girlfriend says she was having a verbal dispute with him about “personal matters and Gervonta having insecurities about the sexuality of their son.”
Davis arrived in Doral to pick up his children at around 5 p.m. The dispute then escalated after both children were in Davis’ car, and Davis allegedly punched his ex-girlfriend “on the rear of her head with a closed fist” and slapped her in the face.
She regained custody of her children and went to a local hospital for treatment. The Doral Police Department report includes a note that suggests there have been “approximately 10” undocumented physical altercations between Davis and his ex-girlfriend in the past.
Davis was being held at Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center in Miami on $10,000 bond, but has since been released, according to Miami-Dade County’s inmate report. The boxer has a court hearing scheduled for July 29.
This isn’t Davis’ first encounter with the law in recent years.
He was charged with simple battery domestic violence in February 2020 and served a 90-day house arrest sentence in 2023 due to a criminal hit-and-run case that occurred in Baltimore in November 2020.
