The Miami Dolphins signed free agent cornerback Jack Jones in response to the season-ending injury suffered by Artie Burns in practice on Wednesday.

The team announced the signing on Saturday but did not reveal the terms. ESPN reported Jones signed a one-year deal.

He was at work at training camp in Miami Gardens, Fla., on Saturday. CBS Miami posted video to its X account showing Jones talking with head coach Mike McDaniel.

Jones, 27, was selected by the Patriots in the fourth round of the 2022 NFL Draft. He spent his first season in New England before being waived on Nov. 13, 2023.

The Las Vegas Raiders claimed him off waivers the following day and released him in April after unsuccessfully trying to trade him. The move saved the Raiders $3.4 million in cap space.

Jones appeared in 17 games for the Raiders last season (16 starts). He intercepted three passes, returning one for a touchdown, and defended 16 passes. He made a career-high 69 tackles.

On the flip side, Jones allowed 698 yards and nine touchdowns.

In 42 career games (21 starts), Jones has seven interceptions and four touchdowns to go with a forced fumble and fumble recovery. He also has 27 passes defended and 136 tackles.

The Dolphins put Burns on season-ending injured reserve but did not divulge his exact injury. Multiple outlets reported he tore an ACL.

Burns signed a one-year deal with the Dolphins in the offseason and Miami is thin at cornerback without him. The Dolphins traded Jalen Ramsey to the Pittsburgh Steelers and could have multiple undrafted free agents in the starting three at corner alongside Cam Smith. Storm Duck, Kader Kohou and Ethan Bonner — all undrafted — are competing with rookie fifth-rounder Jason Marshall Jr., undrafted free agent rookies BJ Adams and Ethan Robinson.

With Jones’ signing, Miami waived cornerback Ryan Cooper Jr.

The Dolphins open the 2025 season on Sept. 7 in Indianapolis against the Colts.
