Dougie Hamilton scored two power-play goals and added an assist as the New Jersey Devils extended their winning streak to seven games with a 3-1 victory against the San Jose Sharks on Friday in Newark, N.J.

Connor Brown also scored, Nico Hischier had three assists and Jake Allen made 16 saves for the Devils, who are riding their longest winning streak since a 13-game run from Oct. 25-Nov. 21, 2022, which tied a franchise record.

William Eklund scored and Yaroslav Askarov made 26 saves for the Sharks, who were trying to win two in a row following an 0-4-2 start.

Capitals 5, Blue Jackets 1

Alex Ovechkin scored his 899th career goal as visiting Washington blitzed Columbus.

Ovechkin, John Carlson and Connor McMichael each had a goal and an assist for the Capitals, who have won six of their past seven games. Justin Sourdif and Tom Wilson also scored, and Logan Thompson made 34 saves and had an assist.

Denton Mateychuk scored in his second straight game for the Blue Jackets, who had won two straight. Jet Greaves made 25 saves.

Jets 5, Flames 3

Gabriel Vilardi produced a goal and an assist and Josh Morrissey collected three assists during a four-goal second period as the host Winnipeg edged Calgary.

Kyle Connor, Jonathan Toews, Alex Iafallo and Vladislav Namestnikov also scored for the Jets, who have won six of seven games. Mark Scheifele netted two helpers and Eric Comrie made 30 saves.

Mikael Backlund and Blake Coleman both collected one goal and one assist for the struggling Flames, who have lost eight straight games since winning their season opener. Dustin Wolf stopped 27 shots.

Sabres 5, Maple Leafs 3

Defenseman Mattias Samuelsson had his first-ever two-goal game as Buffalo bested visiting Toronto.

After a slow start to his season, Tage Thompson netted the go-ahead goal 7:20 into the second period. Thompson, Alex Tuch and Jiri Kulich each had a goal and an assist for Buffalo. Alex Lyon stopped 31 shots for the win.

Dakota Joshua and William Nylander scored and Oliver Ekman-Larsson had two assists for the Maple Leafs. Nylander went to the dressing room late in the game after taking an apparent cross-check from Jason Zucker, and his status for Toronto’s Saturday game against the Sabres was uncertain, according to coach Craig Berube.
