Mouhamed Gueye and Zaccharie Risacher combined for 40 points to help the short-handed Atlanta Hawks take a 122-102 victory over the visiting Los Angeles Lakers on Saturday.
Gueye scored a career-high 21 points on 8-for-12 shooting and Risacher scored 19 to set the pace early as the Hawks ended the Lakers’ five-game winning streak. Atlanta was playing without four starters: Nickeil Alexander-Walker (back), Jalen Johnson (quad), Kristaps Porzingis (illness management) and Trae Young (MCL), as well as Luke Kennard (flu-like symptoms).
The Hawks had seven scorers in double figures, including rookie Asa Newell with a career-high 17 points and four steals. Dyson Daniels nearly notched a triple-double with 10 points, eight rebounds and 13 assists.
LA’s Luka Doncic, who came into the game averaging 40 points, scored 22 in the first half but did not score in the third quarter and did not play in the fourth quarter when the game got out of hand. Doncic had 11 assists and five rebounds with five turnovers. The Lakers were again without Austin Reaves (groin) and LeBron James (sciatica). Maxi Kleber played for the first time this season after recovering from an abdominal strain.
Cavaliers 128, Bulls 122
Donovan Mitchell scored 26 of his game-high 29 points after halftime and De’Andre Hunter added 29 points to lift host Cleveland to a win against Chicago.
Cleveland overcame a 19-point deficit to stretch its winning streak to four games. The Cavaliers scored the last 12 points of the game — including a run of eight straight from Mitchell — after Tre Jones swished a pair of free throws to put Chicago ahead 122-116 with 1:47 remaining. Mitchell shot 9-for-14 in the second half, including 5-for-7 from long range.
Isaac Okoro scored 19 points to lead seven Bulls in double figures, while reserve Jalen Smith had a double-double of 18 points and 11 rebounds.
Suns 114, Clippers 103
Devin Booker scored 21 points with 10 rebounds and nine assists as Phoenix won for the second time in three days against Los Angeles with a victory at Inglewood, Calif.
Mark Williams scored 19 points, Dillon Brooks added 16 and Grayson Allen had 14 for the Suns, who have won four of their past five games to reach .500 for the second time this season. Brooks (abdomen) returned after a six-game absence and played 28 minutes.
Ivica Zubac scored 21 points with 15 rebounds and John Collins added 19 points for the Clippers, who lost their fourth consecutive game and fell to 3-3 at home after starting the season 3-0. Bradley Beal scored 12 points for Los Angeles against his former team.
Mavericks 111, Wizards 105
Naji Marshall scored 30 points and pulled down a key rebound in the closing seconds to help Dallas snap a four-game losing streak with a win over host Washington.
The Mavericks were clinging to a three-point lead when Marshall grabbed an offensive rebound of a missed Brandon Williams jumper and was fouled with 17.2 seconds to go. He made one of his two free throws to give Dallas the boost it needed.
The Mavericks were playing a fifth straight game without star Anthony Davis, and they also were missing Dereck Lively, Klay Thompson and Dante Exum. The Wizards, who have now lost eight straight, were led by CJ McCollum with 25, Cam Whitmore with 19 and Alex Sarr had 17.
76ers 130, Raptors 120
Tyrese Maxey scored 31 points, Joel Embiid added 29, and Trendon Watford recorded his first career triple-double as Philadelphia beat Toronto to snap the visiting Raptors’ four-game winning streak.
Watford had 20 points, a career-high 17 rebounds and 10 assists in his first start of the season for Philadelphia, which snapped a two-game losing skid. Kelly Oubre Jr. scored 19 points, Quentin Grimes had 13, and VJ Edgecombe had 11.
RJ Barrett and Immanuel Quickley scored 22 points apiece to lead the Raptors. Brandon Ingram (21), Scottie Barnes (18), Collin Murray-Boyles (12) and Sandro Mamukelashvili (10) also scored in double figures.
Heat 136, Trail Blazers 131
Nikola Jovic scored a career-high 29 points off the bench and made a key block late in the game to help host Miami outlast Portland.
Jovic’s personal-best led all Heat scorers and paced the Heat bench to 63 points. Teammate Norman Powell scored 22 points for his fifth straight game with at least 21.
Portland’s Deni Avdija led all scorers with 33 points, grabbed a team-high 11 rebounds and doled out eight assists. Shaedon Sharpe scored 21 points and Holiday added 18 points and 13 assists.
Spurs 126, Pelicans 119
De’Aaron Fox poured in 24 points in his first game action since March to lead eight San Antonio players in double-figure scoring as the Spurs held off short-handed visiting New Orleans.
Victor Wembanyama added 18 points and grabbed 18 rebounds for the Spurs, with Devin Vassell scoring 16 points, Harrison Barnes 15, Stephon Castle 14 with 14 assists and Champagnie also contributing 14 points.
Trey Murphy III tied his career high with 41 points for New Orleans while Jeremiah Fears scored 18, Jones hit for 15 and Derik Queen tallied 13 points. The Pelicans played without Zion Williamson (hamstring), Yves Missi (illness) and Jordan Poole (quad strain).
Nuggets 117, Pacers 100
Nikola Jokic had 32 points, 14 assists and 14 rebounds for his sixth triple-double of the season, and host Denver beat Indiana.
Jokic also had a season-high eight turnovers and Tim Hardaway Jr. added 17 points for Denver, which played without injured guard Jamal Murray (left calf tightness) and forward Aaron Gordon (left hamstring). Peyton Watson started in place of Gordon and had a season-high 16 points.
Aaron Nesmith tallied 25 points, Andrew Nembhard returned from a seven-game absence due to a left shoulder strain to score 22 points and Pascal Siakam finished with 14 points for Indiana. Monte Morris, signed Friday, totaled three points in 15 minutes.
