Poland will face the United States in the United Cup semifinals following a 2-1 win over host Australia on Friday in Sydney.

The quarterfinal was decided in mixed doubles after Poland’s Iga Swiatek routed Maya Joint 6-1, 6-1 in 57 minutes and Australia’s Alex de Minaur outlasted Hubert Hurkacz 6-4, 4-6, 6-4.

Poland’s Jan Zielinski and Katarzyna Kawa cruised to a 6-4, 6-0 win against Storm Hunter and John-Patrick Smith to set up a rematch of last year’s United Cup final with the American contingent. Switzerland and Belgium are meeting in Saturday’s other semifinal.

Brisbane International

No. 1 seed Daniil Medvedev of Russia overcame a slow start to beat Polish lucky loser Kamil Majchrzak 6-7 (4), 6-3, 6-2 and reach the semifinals in Australia.

Medvedev struck 16 aces and saved five of six break points to set up a meeting with Alex Michelsen, a 6-3, 7-6 (7) winner against fellow American Sebastian Korda.

In the other half of the draw, Aleksandar Kovacevic and Brandon Nakashima will meet in an all-American semifinal. Kovacevic withstood 24 aces in a 7-6 (3), 4-6, 6-3 defeat of France’s Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard, while Nakashima rolled to a 6-3, 6-3 win against Belgian qualifier Raphael Collignon.

Hong Kong Tennis Open

The top three seeds reached the semifinals of the season-opening event, led by No. 1 Lorenzo Musetti’s 6-4, 6-4 win against Hong Kong hopeful Coleman Wong.

Musetti only faced one break point and converted three of six break chances. Up next for the Italian is third-seeded Russian Andrey Rublev, who saved his only break point and won 89% of the points (34 of 38) on his first serve in a 6-3, 6-4 defeat of No. 8 Nuno Borges of Portugal.

No. 2 seed Alexander Bublik of Kazakhstan will meet Marcos Giron in the other semifinal. Bublik defeated Chinese wild card Juncheng Shang 6-1, 7-6 (2) and Giron was leading fellow American Michael Mmoh 6-3, 1-0 when Mmoh retired from the match.
