Warriors post season-best point total in 140-124 win over Jazz

Stephen Curry scored 27 points and Moses Moody added 26 as the Golden State Warriors notched a 140-124 victory over the Utah Jazz on Wednesday night at Salt Lake City.

Golden State recorded its highest point total of the season. Utah yielded 140-plus points for the ninth time in the campaign.

Gui Santos added a season-best 16 points on 6-of-7 shooting and fellow reserves Buddy Hield and Will Richard had 13 points apiece for the Warriors, who beat the Jazz for the 10th time in the past 11 meetings.

De’Anthony Melton scored 12 points off the bench while Brandin Podziemski registered 11 points, eight rebounds and seven assists as Golden State improved to 6-3 in the past nine games.

Brice Sensabaugh scored 22 points, Keyonte George recorded 19 points and seven assists and Ace Bailey had 19 points and seven rebounds for the Jazz, who have dropped eight of their past nine games.

Utah’s Lauri Markkanen added 18 points, reserves Isaiah Collier and Kyle Filipowski had 12 points apiece and Jusuf Nurkic scored 11.

Golden State put the game away with a 15-0 burst during the fourth quarter. Santos scored seven points during the run and Moody added six as the Warriors stretched a 12-point lead into a dominating 136-109 advantage with 3:29 left.

The Warriors shot 53.5% from the field, including 23 of 54 (42.6%) from 3-point range. Quinten Post added 10 points for Golden State, and Al Horford dished a game-high eight assists.

Moody drained five treys and Curry sank four as the Warriors hit 23 or more for the seventh time this season.

Utah connected on 48.9% of its field-goal attempts and made 15 of 38 (39.5%) from behind the arc.

Curry scored eight points in a 78-second span of the third quarter to give the Warriors an 86-67 edge just before the midway point. He later made two free throws to lift Golden State to a 91-69 lead with 4:49 remaining, part of his 12 points in the quarter.

Utah controlled the rest of the stanza, and back-to-back baskets by Markkanen and Collier pulled the Jazz within 101-93 entering the fourth quarter. Sensabaugh scored 11 points in the period.

Will Richard and Moody sank 3-pointers to open the fourth, giving the Warriors a 14-point lead.

Utah was later within 116-107 after a 3-pointer by Markkanen with 8:13 to play before Golden State created distance.

Moody scored 13 first-half points as the Warriors led 68-55 at the break. George had 12 in the first half for the Jazz.
