The New England Revolution re-signed captain Carles Gil to a contract extension through June 2028 that keeps the midfielder with the team through MLS’s first summer-spring season in 2027-28.

No financial terms were announced for the deal, which replaces the contract extension Gil signed in 2024 that ran through 2026 with a one-year option.

Gil, 33, has played for the Revolution for seven seasons and is the franchise leader in assists (87) and goal contributions (136). The 2021 MLS MVP, he has netted 49 goals in 193 career games (183 starts) for the club.

A native of Spain, Gil scored 10 goals with 14 assists in 34 games last season as New England finished 9-16-9 in the Eastern Conference and missed the playoffs.

After the 2026 season, MLS will play an abbreviated schedule in the spring of 2027. The following season will run from June 2027 through the spring of 2028 to coincide with the top leagues around the world.
