Tiger Woods returns next week at Memorial

Tiger Woods plans to return to tournament play next week at the Memorial Tournament at Muirfield Village in Dublin, Ohio.

“I’m looking forward to playing in the @MemorialGolf next week,” Woods announced Thursday on Twitter. “I’ve missed going out and competing with the guys and can’t wait to get back out there.”

Woods, currently ranked 14th in the world, was ninth at last year’s Memorial.

Woods struggled in his previous official PGA Tour event in February, the Genesis Invitational at Riviera Country Club. Woods, 44, shot 76-77 over the weekend to finish last among players that made the cut.

Woods has nine career top-10 finishes in 17 career starts at Muirfield Village, a course he said he enjoys for the layout and the ties to event host Jack Nicklaus.

Woods played in May in a nationally televised charity event along with Peyton Manning, beating Phil Mickelson and Tom Brady in Florida.

Woods is a five-time Memorial champion, and he last won it in 2012. He also won three in a row from 1999-2001.

Nicklaus is the only golfer with more major tournament victories than Woods (15).

The tournament in Ohio presents Woods another chance to win his 83rd PGA Tour event. His next win would put Woods ahead of Sam Snead for most all-time victories.
