Simeon Woods Richardson, a former Toronto prospect, was traded by the Minnesota Twins to the Blue Jays on Wednesday in a cash transaction.
Minnesota designated Woods Richardson, 25, for assignment on Saturday after he compiled an 0-7 record with a 7.74 ERA in 12 games (10 starts) this year.
Blue Jays manager John Schneider said of Woods Richardson, “He has been a pretty good stable guy in Minnesota’s rotation for a couple of years. So I think having some confidence and hopefully maybe tweaking a few things here and there can get him back on track.”
Schneider added that Woods Richardson was unlikely to join the team in time to pitch in the series finale against the host Atlanta Braves on Thursday.
In five major league seasons, all for the Twins, Woods Richardson owns a 12-17 record with a 4.76 ERA, 258 strikeouts and 124 walks in 302 1/3 innings over 65 games (61 starts).
Woods Richardson was selected by the Mets in the second round of the 2018 draft, then traded to the Blue Jays in the deal that sent right-hander Marcus Stroman to New York a year later.
He pitched in the Toronto farm system until a July 2021 trade moved him and outfielder Austin Martin to Minnesota in exchange for right-hander Jose Berrios.
