The Detroit Tigers placed second baseman Gleyber Torres on the 10-day injured list Wednesday with a left oblique strain.
Right-hander Casey Mize came off the 15-day IL and was scheduled to start Wednesday’s series finale at Houston.
Torres, 29, exited Monday’s 9-3 win against the Astros after swinging at a pitch in the second inning.
The three-time All-Star is batting .280 with four homers and 18 RBIs in 43 games this season. He missed one month earlier this season with a similar injury.
“It’s a new injury in the same region of his previous injury,” manager A.J. Hinch said before Wednesday’s game. “Obviously, it’s all related in there. It’s frustrating for him and for us that the area continues to be an issue for him, so he’ll be down.”
Torres is a .264 career hitter with 158 home runs and 533 RBIs in 1,076 games with the New York Yankees (2018-24) and Tigers.
