Matt Vierling hit a bases-loaded single in the 10th inning to drive in the game-winning run, as the host Detroit Tigers completed a three-game sweep of the Chicago White Sox with a 5-4 victory on Sunday.

Detroit scored two runs in the 10th after Tristan Peters’ sacrifice fly gave Chicago the lead in the top of the inning.

Riley Greene singled off Brandon Eisert (1-1) to lead off the 10th, sending Kerry Carpenter to third. Spencer Torkelson’s single tied the game and, after a fielder’s choice loaded the bases, Vierling singled off Jordan Hicks.

Dillon Dingler hit his team-high 18th homer and drove in two runs for the Tigers. Zach McKinstry had a pair of hits and drove in a run. Will Vest (3-4) picked up the victory in relief.

Luisangel Acuna hit a two-run homer, his first of the season, for Chicago. Starter Davis Martin gave up one run and five hits in six innings with three walks and four strikeouts.

Detroit starter Keider Montero gave up three runs and six hits in seven innings. Montero retired the first 13 batters he faced, struck out three and walked none.

Braden Montgomery’s infield single with one out gave Chicago its first baserunner in the fifth. Montero then retired the next two batters on a flyout and strikeout.

Colt Keith led off the bottom of the fifth with a single. With two out, Keith stole second and scored on McKinstry’s line drive single to center.

The White Sox took the lead in the sixth. Peters led off with a single and Acuna blasted a 416-foot shot to center field for his first home run since the 2024 season.

Chicago made it 3-1 in the seventh. Montgomery recorded another single and advanced to third on Edgar Quero’s single. Peters followed with a ground-rule double down the left field line, knocking in Montgomery.

The Tigers cut the White Sox’s advantage to 3-2 when Dingler led off the bottom of the eighth with his homer to left-center field.

With two out in the ninth, Jahmai Jones and Kevin McGonigle singled to put runners on the corners. Dingler followed with another single, scoring Jones with the tying run. Carpenter grounded out, sending the game to extra innings.
