Team Falcons blanked FURIA 3-0 in the grand final of the Intel Extreme Masters Cologne Major on Sunday in Germany.
Falcons clinched the $500,000 grand prize out of a $1.25 million prize pool at the major that began back on June 2. FURIA had to settle for $170,000 in second.
The Counter-Strike 2 tournament began with 32 entrants. The field was ultimately trimmed to the final eight teams through a series of three stages, where all elimination and advancement matches were best-of-three, as were most of the single-elimination playoffs. Sunday’s grand final was best-of-five.
Team Falcons made quick work of FURIA, posting identical 13-8 results on Mirage, Anubis and Inferno.
Falcons star Nikola “NiKo” Kovac of Bosnia and Herzegovina had 52 kills on a plus-20 kills-deaths differential, while teammate Maksim “kyousuke” Lukin of Russia had a match-high 55 kills against 43 deaths. FURIA were led by Danil “molodoy” Golubenko of Kazakhstan, who had 51 kills and 41 deaths.
