Washington’s Daylen Lile singled in the tiebreaking run with the first at-bat in the 10th inning and the visiting Nationals held on to halt a four-game losing streak with a 4-3 victory against the Baltimore Orioles on Saturday night.

The Orioles loaded the bases with two outs in the 10th before Justin Lawrence, despite giving up a single and a walk, notched his first save since 2024 on Samuel Basallo’s groundout. The Nationals recorded the second out of the inning on a play at the plate off an infield grounder.

Washington starter Foster Griffin held the Orioles to one unearned run for seven innings, but he wasn’t rewarded. Griffin, who never gave up more than one run in any of his five June starts, limited Baltimore to three hits and two walks while striking out nine.

Clayton Beeter (3-1) was the winning pitcher with a shutout inning of relief.

Luis Garcia Jr. homered among his four hits for Washington. Jorbit Vivas produced three hits and Lile and Drew Millas each added two hits.

The Orioles put a damper on the Nationals’ bullpen when Pete Alonso roped a two-out, run-scoring double in the eighth inning and Basallo followed with a game-tying pinch-hit single. PJ Poulin and Orlando Ribalta were each charged with one run.

Orioles starter Brandon Young gave up two runs on seven hits across five innings while walking two and striking out eight. Ryan Helsley (0-4) took the loss.

The Nationals scored first on Vivas’ second-inning single. The Orioles were even in the bottom of the inning when Chadwick Tromp’s single accounted for an unearned run.

Garcia homered for the 14th time this season to lead off the fifth. The Nationals padded their lead on Millas’ single in the sixth, driving in Vivas.

Tromp had two of Baltimore’s seven hits.

The Nationals wasted numerous scoring opportunities, stranding 13 runners — including two after taking the lead in the 10th. They were 3-for-15 at the plate with runners in scoring position.
