Cole Young hit two home runs and George Kirby pitched eight strong innings as the Seattle Mariners defeated the visiting Los Angeles Angels 6-2 on Monday.
Dominic Canzone also went deep for the Mariners, who got back to .500 while snapping a two-game skid.
Zach Neto doubled and homered for the Angels, who had a two-game winning streak ended and lost for just the third time in their past nine games.
Kirby (7-7) won his second straight start following a five-decision losing streak. The right-hander allowed two runs on seven hits while walking one and striking out seven.
Angels rookie Ryan Johnson (1-3) gave up three runs — one earned — on four hits over five innings, with no walks and three strikeouts.
The Mariners trailed 2-0 before Young led off the bottom of the third with a 412-foot blast to straightaway center field.
Seattle took the lead with two runs in the fourth. With two outs, Randy Arozarena was hit by a pitch and Josh Naylor reached on a two-base fielding error by third baseman Denzer Guzman. Cal Raleigh blooped a two-run single to shallow left.
Canzone led off the bottom of the sixth with a homer to right-center off Angels reliever Mitch Farris. Naylor drew a one-out walk, and with two outs, Young hit a 406-foot shot off the facade of the second deck in right field to make it 6-2.
The Angels opened the scoring in the first. Neto led off with a double to center and scored on Guzman’s single to right off the glove of diving first baseman Naylor.
Neto went deep off the back wall of the Mariners’ bullpen in left-center field with two outs in the third to give the Angels a 2-0 lead.
