Zach McKinstry ripped a bases-loaded two-run single off Camilo Doval to highlight a four-run 11th inning for the Detroit Tigers, who completed a three-game sweep with a 6-2 victory over the host New York Yankees on Wednesday afternoon.

The Tigers completed their first road sweep of the Yankees since 2008 after Detroit reliever Drew Anderson blew a two-run lead in the ninth. Spencer Torkelson gave the Tigers the lead in the 11th by getting a full-count walk against Doval before McKinstry ripped a 1-1 cutter from Camilo Doval (3-1) that scored Riley Greene and Hao-Yu Lee.

McKinstry took third when Torkelson scored on a throwing error by catcher Ali Sanchez, whose poor throw landed in center field.

The Yankees totaled seven hits and are on their first seven-game skid since losing nine straight from Aug. 12-22, 2023. New York also lost for the 11th time in its past 14 games and fell to 4-10 in its past 14 meetings with the Tigers.

Amed Rosario homered to get the Yankees within a run in the ninth. Jazz Chisholm Jr. then singled and later scored on a wild pitch after stealing second and third on consecutive pitches to Anthony Volpe for a 2-2 score.

Keider Montero (5-5) pitched two innings after Anderson lost a two-run lead in the ninth.

Before Anderson faltered, Troy Melton limited the Yankees to two hits in 6 1/3 innings on the heels of strong outings by Detroit starters Casey Mize and Tarik Skubal. Melton struck out seven and walked one on a 95-degree day.

Rookie Kevin McGonigle gave the Tigers a 1-0 lead in the third inning when he hit a curveball from New York starter Will Warren into the first row of the right-center field bleachers. McGonigle’s seventh career homer bounced out of a fan’s hands and into the Yankee bullpen.

Greene, who hit two of Detroit’s five homers Wednesday, lifted a sacrifice fly in the sixth. Greene gave the Tigers a 2-0 lead after Kerry Carpenter singled and took second when center fielder Jose Caballero attempted to get baserunner Dillon Dingler at third.

Warren allowed two runs and five hits in five-plus innings.
