Veteran forward Claude Giroux is returning to the Ottawa Senators on a one-year, $2 million contract.

The 38-year-old Giroux, who was an unrestricted free agent, signed the deal on Tuesday. This will be Giroux’s fifth season with the Senators.

Last season, Giroux amassed 14 goals and 35 assists as he played in all 82 regular-season games.

When factoring in potential bonuses, Giroux could earn up to $5 million on the contract. Giroux decided to remain in Ottawa because of the camaraderie developed during his time.

“I chose to come back because I want to be here. I’m excited to be an Ottawa Senator,” Giroux said. “Being around those guys for four years, we got really close. This team feels like a family. I just care for those players.”

In a Dec. 27, 2025 loss at the Toronto Maple Leafs, Giroux became the 76th player in league history to play 1,300 regular-season games. Overall, Giroux has tallied 85 goals and 157 assists as a member of the Senators.

Giroux spent the first 15 seasons of his career with the Philadelphia Flyers and also had a stint with the Florida Panthers prior to joining the Senators. In 1,345 career games, he has amassed 1,165 points (379 goals, 786 assists).
