Manny Machado and Jackson Merrill homered in the four-run eighth inning to help the visiting San Diego Padres rally for a 5-3 win on Sunday afternoon and extend the Miami Marlins’ losing streak to a franchise-record 12 straight games.

Machado also had an RBI double in the fifth that sparked the comeback after being down 3-0.

Jake Cronenworth contributed three hits and scored twice, and Ty France, Luis Rengifo and Merrill had two hits each for San Diego, which swept the three-game series.

Padres starter Walker Buehler surrendered three runs (two earned) and four hits in 5 1/3 innings. The veteran right-hander struck out seven and walked two.

San Diego relievers Yuki Matsui, Wandy Peralta (2-2) and Adrian Morejon combined to keep Miami scoreless for 2 2/3 innings before Mason Miller pitched the ninth for his 27th save.

Kyle Stowers doubled and homered for the Marlins, who had lost 11 in a row three other times in team history, most recently in June of 2011.

Miami starter Janson Junk went 4 2/3 innings, allowing one run and scattering seven hits. The right-hander struck out six and didn’t walk a batter.

Lake Bachar (1-2) came out for the eighth trying to protect a two-run lead, but gave up a leadoff single to Cronenworth. Machado then lined a 3-2 fastball over the fence in center to tie it 3-3.

One out later, Bachar left a sweeper over the middle of the plate and Merrill pulled it over the fence in right for a 4-3 lead.

The inning would continue with a double by Rengifo and an RBI single by Luis Campusano that made it 5-3.

Buehler walked Liam Hicks and Griffin Conine to start the second inning. Hicks broke for third with Rengifo charging on a bunt attempt by Esteury Ruiz, who pulled his bat back as Padres shortstop Sung-Mun Song was trying to beat Hicks to third.

Campusano’s throw went into left field, allowing Hicks to score on the throwing error for a 1-0 lead.

Ruiz then sacrificed Conine to third and he scored on a line drive over the drawn-in infield by Graham Pauley for a 2-0 lead.

Stowers led off the third by pulling a changeup into the seats high above the right-field fence to make it 3-0.

Junk was one out from being eligible for the win, but Cronenworth singled with two outs in the fifth and then scored from first on a double down the left-field line by Machado to cut it to 3-1 and end Junk’s afternoon.
