The Philadelphia Eagles are placing Pro Bowl linebacker Jonathan Greenard on the physically unable to perform list with a pectoral strain sustained during a recent weightlifting session.

The team made the announcement on Wednesday, the first day of training camp practice, and said the injury is not expected to be a long-term concern.

“One of the things we know about Greenard is he’s going to be ready to play,” Eagles general manager Howie Roseman said Wednesday. “Training camp is so important, practice is so important, but when you have a guy that prepares the way he does, who has the experience in the NFL the way he does, you know he’s going to be ready to play when we start the season.”

Greenard, 29, is returning from offseason surgery after being limited to 12 games last season with the Minnesota Vikings to due to a left shoulder injury.

Minnesota traded the veteran edge rusher to Philadelphia on April 24 for third-round picks in 2026 and 2027. The Eagles then signed Greenard to a four-year, $100 million contract with $50 million guaranteed.

After posting double-digit sacks in back-to-back seasons with Houston in 2023 and Minnesota in 2024, Greenard had three sacks, 38 tackles and 12 quarterback hits last season.

Greenard has 38 sacks, 217 tackles, 75 QB hits, eight forced fumbles and one interception (returned for a touchdown) in 77 career games (59 starts) with the Texans (2020-23) and Vikings. Houston drafted him in the third round in 2020 and he made the Pro Bowl in 2024.
