ZETA DIVISION took care of Twisted Minds 4-2 in the best-of-seven Grand Final to capture the Overwatch Champions Series Midseason Championship on Sunday in Paris.
ZETA DIVISION earned $400,000 for their triumph, along with 1,000 Esports World Cup club points with this $1 million competition included in that larger event. South Korea’s Kim “shu” Jin-seo was named the Most Valuable Player and claimed a $25,000 prize for his efforts.
The 16-team event began with a double-elimination group stage. All group-stage matches were best-of-three, and the top four teams from both groups made the single-elimination playoffs.
Playoff matches were best-of-five until the grand final on Sunday, which was best-of-seven.
ZETA opened with a 2-1 victory in Busan Control, but Twisted Minds responded with a 3-2 Neon Junction Hybrid win. They continued taking turns as ZETA comfortably won 118.11m to 66.43m in Colosseo Push, and Twisted Minds claimed a 3-1 victory in Suravasa Flashpoint.
ZETA DIVISION seized control from there. They secured a 3-2 win on Route 66 Escort, then captured the title with a 2-1 Eichenwalde Hybrid victory. Twisted Minds settled for a $180,000 payout and 750 EWC club points.
In the best-of-five third-place match, T1 swept Weibo Gaming on Nepal Control (2-0), Neon Junction Hybrid (2-1) and Aatlis Flashpoint (3-0) to collect $100,000 and 500 club points. Weibo Gaming received $60,000 and 300 points.
ZETA DIVISION reached the finals by sweeping T1 in a best-of-five semifinal while Twisted Minds edged Weibo Gaming 3-2.
