Dolphins owner Stephen Ross promoted his son-in-law, Daniel Sillman, to CEO of Ross Sports & Entertainment in place of president and CEO Tom Garfinkel.

Garfinkel stepped down after 13 seasons in the role as Sillman, 37, becomes a more prominent player in the Dolphins’ front office. Head coach Jeff Hafley, hired to replace Mike McDaniel, general manager Jon-Eric Sullivan and vice president of football operations Brandon Shore all report up to Sillman in the new structure, which will see him helm football operations.

“Danny’s deep familiarity with the organization’s businesses, combined with his experience building globally recognized sports and media companies, uniquely positions him to lead Ross Sports & Entertainment into its next phase of operation,” Ross said in a statement on Tuesday. “He understands our culture, our ambitions, and where we’re headed, and I have complete confidence in his ability to lead the organization into this new era.”

Sillman is co-founder and executive chairman of Relevent Sports — described as “the world’s most influential privately owned sport and media rights organization” — which helps oversee the Dolphins, Hard Rock Stadium and the Miami Grand Prix, among other ventures. He was also a lead negotiator in billion-dollar rights deals for LaLiga with ESPN and Paramount’s agreement with UEFA.

“It is an incredible honor to lead Ross Sports & Entertainment at such an exciting moment,” Sillman said. “Tom and this leadership team have built one of the most admired organizations in global sports. I’ve had the privilege of working alongside many of them and have seen firsthand the culture, ambition and relentless pursuit of excellence that define this enterprise.”

Sillman is married to one of Ross’ two daughters (Kimberly). The couple is part of the Dolphins’ succession plan, as is Ross’ other daughter, Jennifer.

Ross said Garfinkel will remain with the team and serve as vice chairman of the Dolphins and Hard Rock Stadium and as a managing partner of the Miami Grand Prix.
