Jesus Luzardo pitched eight scoreless innings and Luis Arraez enjoyed a successful Phillies debut Tuesday in Philadelphia’s 5-0 victory over the visiting Washington Nationals.

Arraez, acquired in a trade with the San Francisco Giants on Monday, went 2-for-4 with two RBIs and a run out of the cleanup spot. Trea Turner added three hits and scored twice for Philadelphia, which has won four games in a row following a stretch of eight losses in nine games.

The Nationals managed only four hits and two walks against Luzardo (10-5), who struck out seven in a 98-pitch effort.

Washington right-hander Zack Littell came on midway through the first inning and allowed four runs and seven hits in 6 2/3 frames. He walked one without striking out a batter.

Arraez wasted little time making an impact, as he delivered a single to center in the first inning to knock in the first run of the game. That was the final batter for opener Carson Palmquist (0-2), who allowed three of the four hitters he faced to reach base before giving way to Littell.

The Phillies again dented the scoreboard with two runs in the third. Turner reached on an infield single and Bryce Harper walked before Arraez grounded a run-scoring double inside the first base bag. Alec Bohm followed with a sacrifice fly and Brandon Marsh added an RBI double later in the frame to make it 4-0.

Luzardo worked around a pair of baserunners in the fourth but needed only six pitches to get through the fifth.

The Phillies extended their lead to 5-0 in the seventh when Justin Crawford reached on a leadoff single, stole second and scored on a base hit by Turner.

Luzardo gave up a leadoff hit to Nasim Nunez in the eighth, but he retired the next three hitters to keep the visitors scoreless.

Caleb Kilian, also acquired in the Arraez trade, struck out two in the ninth to clinch the Phillies’ major-league-leading 15th shutout.
