Caitlin Clark avoids suspension as WNBA rescinds technical foul

Caitlin Clark won’t be suspended for her eighth technical of the season, after all.

In the third quarter of Saturday’s 90-86 win over the Sky in Chicago, the Indiana Fever star was assessed a technical foul for making contact with an official. That was her eighth technical of the season. By rule, an eighth technical foul triggers an automatic one-game suspension.

The Fever’s next game is Tuesday at home against the New York Liberty (19-13), who trail Indiana (20-12) by one game in the standings.

However, the WNBA rescinded the technical less than two hours after the game, per an ESPN report.

With 1:06 to play in the third Saturday, Clark was called for a foul after running into an official as she passed the ball before running out of bounds along the baseline. The official blew the play dead and called the technical.

But the Sky’s Natasha Cloud appeared bump and ride Clark’s hip, forcing her out of bounds. Following Clark’s technical, Fever coach Stephanie White received one, as well, for arguing the call.

“My tech was for saying ‘that’s bulls–t,’ even though I heard the F-bomb the whole f–ing game,” White said.

After the game but before the league rescinded the technical, crew chief Maj Forsberg explained that the official “deemed that Clark intentionally made contact; therefore, a technical foul was assessed.”

Clark finished with 26 points and made 5 of 6 from 3-point land.
