Kyle Schwarber went 2-for-5 with two home runs and three RBIs, and the Philadelphia Phillies pulled away for a 7-1 win over the Minnesota Twins in the annual Field of Dreams game Thursday night in Dyersville, Iowa.
Brandon Marsh finished 2-for-2 with a homer and two RBIs for Philadelphia, which won on a warm, dry night on the famed Iowa farmland that served as the set of the 1980s baseball movie blockbuster for which the game is named. Bryce Harper and Bryson Stott added one RBI apiece.
Luke Keaschall went 2-for-3 with a double and a homer to lead Minnesota at the plate.
Phillies right-hander Aaron Nola (4-9) earned his first victory since May 26. He held the Twins to one run on five hits in five innings, walking three and striking out nine.
Twins right-hander Taj Bradley (9-5) gave up five runs on seven hits in four innings. He walked four and struck out three.
The Phillies jumped to a 2-0 lead in the top of the first inning.
Schwarber started the scoring on the third pitch of the game, pulling a line-drive home run to right field and watching it land in the rows of corn behind the wall.
Stott made it 2-0 later in the inning when he ripped an RBI single to center. The hit drove in Harper, who reached on a one-out walk and advanced to third on a single by Luis Arraez.
The Twins got on the scoreboard in the second when Keaschall lifted a towering fly ball that carried just over the left field wall.
Philadelphia increased its lead to 5-1 in the fourth.
Schwarber benefited from a defensive miscue for his second homer of the game. Keaschall tracked Schwarber’s fly ball to the right field wall and leaped for a catch, but the ball deflected off his glove and bounced over the wall for a two-run homer.
Harper drove in the third run of the inning with an RBI single to center.
In the seventh, the Phillies added two more runs to seize a 7-1 advantage when Marsh hooked a long fly ball down the right field line and raised his fist to celebrate after the ball disappeared into the corn.
