Reid Detmers allowed two hits and struck out 11 over eight shutout innings and Nolan Schanuel had three hits and drove in the winning run in the eighth inning as the Los Angeles Angels edged the Kansas City Royals 1-0 on Saturday night in Anaheim, Calif.

It was the first home win in 22 starts for Detmers (4-8), who entered the contest tied with Kutter Crawford and Alex Cobb for the most consecutive home starts without a win in American League history (21). It also snapped a nine-start winless streak for Detmers.

Detmers, making his 100th career major league start, retired the first 11 batters he faced before Jac Caglianone singled in the fourth inning, extending Caglianone’s hitting streak to 13 games. He struck out the side in both the third and seventh innings and left after throwing 92 pitches, 68 for strikes.

Ben Joyce, who had pitches register 104.5 and 104.4 mph on the radar gun, struck out two during a 1-2-3 ninth inning to pick up his second save.

Adam Frazier doubled and had two hits for Los Angeles, which won for the first time in five games against Kansas City this season.

Nate Pearson (2-1) took the loss for the Royals, who have now lost five of their last six games. Pearson allowed one run on one hit and one walk in one inning. Kansas City wasted a strong start from Randy Dobnak, who allowed four hits, walked two and struck out six over 5 2/3 shutout innings.

The game was scoreless entering the bottom of the eighth inning when Pearson walked leadoff hitter Wade Meckler. Jose Siri pinch-ran for Meckler and, after Mike Trout popped out to first base, stole second. Schanuel then followed with a line single off the glove of a diving Caglianone into right field, driving in Siri with the only run of the game.
